The Assistant Machining Manager – 3rd Shift is responsible for leading and supervising all third-shift CNC machining operations, including both milling and turning. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production during overnight hours while maintaining operational continuity between shifts.
The Assistant Machining Manager plays a critical leadership role in achieving production targets, enforcing operational standards, supporting team development, and independently addressing technical challenges during off-shift hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all 3rd shift CNC machining operations, including mills and lathes, to meet production, quality, and delivery targets.
Oversee 3rd shift Machine Shop employees and personnel.
Ensure proper machine setup, job changeovers, tooling readiness, and program execution.
Monitor cycle times, scrap, rework, and downtime; take immediate corrective action as needed.
Support troubleshooting of machining issues related to tooling, fixturing, programs, materials, and machine performance.
Provide hands-on coaching, training, and performance feedback to employees.
Enforce company policies, work rules, and standard operating procedures in a non-union environment.
Enforce all safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe machining practices.
Communicate shift status, production results, staffing issues, downtime, and quality concerns through shift reports and handoff meetings.
Ensure accurate completion of production, inspection, and downtime documentation.

Requirements
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience, including mills and lathes.
Prior leadership experience as a Lead, Supervisor, or Assistant Manager in a machining or manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling applications, GD&T, and blueprint reading.
Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot machining and quality issues during off-shift operations.
