FULL JOB TITLE: QA Tech
DEPARTMENT: Quality Assurance
JOB STATUS: Hourly
LOCATION: Columbia, SC
GENERAL SUMMARY: Tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and
evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following
duties.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three
months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and
small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to compute basic arithmetic problems and accurately operate calculator.
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume,
and distance.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved
written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in
standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Ability to enter data into existing computer software, following on-screen prompts or
written instructions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Certificate of Welding Inspector (AWS QC1 CWI);
Certification as ASNT-TC-1A Level II in Magnetic Particle (MT), Dye Penetrate (PT), and Ultrasonic
Testing (UT) NDE a strong plus; ability to work at heights with harness.
Other Skills and Abilities: None Required.
Other Qualifications: Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS/TOOLS USED: Tape Measure, Micrometer, Computer System, Calculator, Lab
Test Equipment (tensile, hardness, Milling Machine, band saw, etc.)
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The
employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee must
frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to
adjust focus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following: (Other duties may be assigned,
including but not limited to cross training and housekeeping. Responsibilities also include attention to safety
according to all safety rules.)
1. Interprets engineering drawings, specifications, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with
management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
2. Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of
qualities such as dimensions, performance or mechanical characteristics.
3. Records test data, applying standard operating procedures.
4. Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
5. Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure
performance, life, or material characteristics.
6. Enters data into computer for analysis.
7. Observes in-process operations to ensure compliance with customer specifications for manufacturing,
such as pre-heating pipe, hydro testing, roundness.
8. Performs visual inspection of finished goods to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
9. May be required to calibrate lab equipment to conform to legal and manufacturing requirements.
10. Coordinates calibrations of production equipment, QA tests, and NDE equipment as needed.
11. Performs other duties as instructed by supervision.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
