The Hand Welder welds round pipe to customer specifications using both manual and automated welding equipment. This role reads mechanical drawings, operates fabrication machinery, and ensures products meet quality and safety standards. The Hand Welder works in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining a clean workspace and following OSHA safety guidelines.
This position is first shift, with availability required starting at 5:00am.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- MIG weld pipe and fabricated components to required specifications using manual and automated welding equipment.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications to determine material needs and machine settings.
- Operate fabrication shop equipment to cut, thread, and prepare pipe and materials.
- Inspect and measure finished workpieces to ensure accuracy and quality standards are met.
- Monitor machine operation and identify defects or equipment issues.
- Perform basic machine maintenance and keep equipment in safe working condition.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while following OSHA safety standards.
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet production goals and customer expectations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to MIG weld and operate fabrication shop machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to measure accurately.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Ability to work safely and follow OSHA guidelines in a shop environment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills in a production setting.
- Ability to adapt and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer skills.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Welding certification preferred, or equivalent professional welding experience.
- Ability to pass an operator exam and operate powered industrial equipment.
